Spring is here at Emerson Overlook!

Now that Spring has sprung at Emerson Overlook, our homeowners are sprucing up their balconies.  Whether you’re into large or small containers, trellises, or window boxes,  balcony gardening is a great way to lend color and excitement to your outdoor space. It’s also a good way to get yourself outside. If you don’t find yourself using your balcony much, add a few plants and some seating and see if you start spending more time outside. The more you like your balcony surroundings, the harder you’ll work to keep improving them. Make your own unique containers for gardening, and work on using a variety of colors in your planting. A little planting will go a long way toward making your balcony a more attractive and appealing place to spend time.

Walk to The Strand to see “Ain’t Misbehavin’!

If you have not been yet, you only have a few days left to see Ain’t Misbehavin’, a Tony Award-winning celebration of the music of Thomas “Fats” Waller. An ensemble of energetic and irresistible performers and the hottest jazz band in town will bring down the house with a musical parade of thirty of Waller’s greatest hits. A joyously creative songwriter of the 1920s and 30s, Fats Waller penned over 400 songs in his career – many of which have entered the classic repertoire of jazz standards that are still being performed today. Ain’t Misbehavin’ pays tribute to his legacy and music.

The play is playing just steps from Emerson Overlook at The Earl Strand.

Let’s Ride the Silver Comet Trail

This weekend is the perfect weekend to dust off the bike and take a ride along the Silver Comet Trail! Cobb’s section of the Silver Comet Trail is a scenic 12.8-mile multi-use paved trail that begins in Smyrna and travels west through southern parts of the county. The trail follows the abandoned railroad line once traveled by the Silver Comet passenger train.
The Silver Comet passenger train was introduced by Seaboard Air Line Railroad in 1947. Originally fitted with an observation car and sleep lounge cars, it carried passengers through southern cities like Atlanta and Birmingham to destinations in the north such as New York, Philadelphia and Washington.

As passengers traveled across the countryside, they were treated to a variety of scenic vistas. Today the rail has been converted by Cobb Department of Transportation into a multi-use trail that is designed for use by all. Casual walkers, hikers, joggers, bicyclists, inline skaters and people with disabilities can all use the trail and enjoy the same sights once reserved for the train’s passengers.

Traversing six trestles and bridges, the trail offers spectacular views and direct access to Heritage Park, a natural park that includes approximately 105 acres with 14.3 acres of wetland in four separate sites. Visitors can follow the 1.7-mile walking trail to the remains of a woolen mill.
